Sipho Mbule could be on his way out of Mamelodi Sundowns, with the club yet to activate the option in his contract. His agent, Mike Makaab, has made it clear that if Sundowns don’t act by the end of May, Mbule will become a free agent—opening the door for interested clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, who’ve long had their eye on him.

Currently loaned out to Sekhukhune United, Mbule started the season on a high note but soon found himself on the sidelines due to alleged off-field issues. Still, he’s made 17 appearances, scored twice, and assisted three times—reminding everyone of the creative spark he brings when focused.

Makaab: “He’s got problems, but he’s got talent”

Makaab acknowledged the challenges Mbule has faced but continues to believe in his ability. Speaking to Simtho Dladla on GagasiFM, he laid out the situation:

“Sundowns have until the end of May to take up the option. If they don’t, Sipho becomes a free agent and we’ll start exploring his next steps,” he said.

He added: “I’m not worried. He’s a gifted player. Sure, he has his issues—we’re not going to sugarcoat that. But I’m confident he’ll rise to the occasion.”

Kaizer Chiefs Watching Closely

With Mbule’s future hanging in the balance, speculation around a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs is heating up. The timing could be perfect for the Soweto giants if Sundowns decide not to extend his stay.

“If Sundowns do pick up the option but both parties don’t want to continue, then we’ll need to look at other ways to facilitate a move,” Makaab explained. “It won’t be simple, but we’ll carefully weigh all the options and guide Sipho to make the best choice for his career.
